What’s in a Name?
It was many moons ago now that blogging was actually my job.
It started out at Colorado Mountain College with The Collarbone Chronicles, my personal blog that was meant to show prospective students a glimpse inside life at Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs, CO. And honestly, I’d link to it if it was still up, I’m sure it’d make for many good laughs after all these years.
I had a personal blog for a bit after moving to Salt Lake City, UT (also couldn’t find it on the web) and eventually landed a promotion from Floor/Online Sales to running the “Marketing Department” (it was just me) at Salty Peaks Board Shop in Salt Lake City, UT.
Now I’m once again trying my hand(s) at writing long-winded stories for the internet under the moniker Death Reckoning. Hopefully this iteration will be the truest to me of all three.
But what’s in a name?
In the world of nautical navigation lives the term dead reckoning. To quote from almighty Wikipedia, “In navigation, dead reckoning is the process of calculating the current position of some moving object by using a previously determined position, or fix, and then incorporating estimates of speed, heading direction, and course over elapsed time.”
In my world, Death Reckoning is the process of looking back on one’s life and being grateful for just how much you’ve grown and how far you’ve come despite how you might feel in the present.
My small play on words is also to help keep in mind that one day we all face death’s reckoning. Yes I know that sounds like some bleak emo sad boi shit, but the purpose is simply to remind us to make the most of the time we have because no one gets out alive, so we should do everything in our power to make our time in this realm, navigating these tumultuous seas, a good one.
The preceding posts will be like a life travel journal. I aim to chronicle things with the goal of seeing where I’m going by being able to look back at it all, to reflect on where I’ve been and how I’ve grown.
Thanks for joining me on this journey, I sincerely hope you enjoy the ride.
