Announcing My Scalehouse Artist Residency
There haven't been many moments in my life where I’ve truly understood their significance while they’re happening.
It’s almost always much after the fact that I realize what a profound impact they had on me and my life’s trajectory.
But this is one I’m fully recognizing as it’s happening.
The local arts & culture organization Scalehouse renovated studio space next door to their gallery in downtown Bend, Oregon in a beautiful tribute to late board member and amazing artist Patricia Clark to carry on her legacy of making art accessible and the process more transparent.
They recently put out a call for two artist residency spots to fill the new studio and it is my deep & genuine honor, pleasure, and privilege to announce that I was picked for one!
For six months, May - October, I’ll be painting my brains out alongside the incredible talents of fellow local artist June Park.
For quite some time now I’ve wanted my career to include more painting and to go in the direction of fine art, so this is undoubtedly the catalyst I needed to make that happen and I fully plan on cherishing every second of it.
When I got the news, I couldn’t contain the excitement and dove right into the following painting that’s aptly titled “I Never Know What I’m Doing.”
Even though I’ve come far enough in my career to be selected, I’m still in a perpetual state of learning, growing, and experimenting.
I started playing around with this illustrative abstract style back in October 2021 for Bend's $20 Art Show (shown below). While I never fully know what I’m doing or where my art is going next, I’m beyond excited to have the dedicated time and space to experiment more with this style.
COLOSSAL, GARGANTUAN, MONSTROUS THANK YOU to René Mitchell, Lana Bannow, the selection committee (whoever you are!), and everyone at Scalehouse for this mind-blowing, self-worth-growing opportunity. I can't wait to see what we create together!
